Equinome was established in 2009 as a result of groundbreaking research led by company founder, Dr Emmeline Hill. This research made the first known identification of a gene contributing to a specific athletic trait in Thoroughbred horses.
Initiated in 2004 and funded by a Science Foundation Ireland President of Ireland Young Researcher Award, this academic research programme was the first in the world to apply novel genetic technologies to identify genetic contributions to racing performance in Thoroughbreds. The research, endorsed by the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, was enabled by the strength of support from the Irish bloodstock industry through the provision of DNA samples from elite racehorses.
From its world-class facilities in University College Dublin, Equinome provides an accurate, secure and strictly confidential genetic testing service to the global bloodstock industry. All tests are founded in peer-reviewed science and are carried out using proprietary Equinome technology.
This commitment to scientific excellence ensures that Equinome continues drive the cutting edge of equine genomics.
